British Standards Institute (BSI) awards Zain Zambia ISO Quality and Information Security Certificate
Following an intensive assessment of the company's management systems for compliance with global ISO 9001:2008 (Quality Management System) and ISO 27001:2005 (Information Security Management System) standards, the British Standards Institute (BSI) has awarded Zain Zambia the nation’s leading mobile service provider in Zambia, ISO certification.
The company attained this milestone for its best practice in daily business management systems with a focus on delivering customer satisfaction and guaranteeing customer information security.
Announcing the development in Lusaka, Zain Zambia Managing Director, Mr. David Holliday, said that the mobile operator is now, not only the first Zain African operation to achieve the recognition, but the first telecommunications provider in the region to meet and comply with the internal standard requirements and be recommended for certification.
“It is a credit to the whole Zain Zambia dedicated team of professionals to attain such a prestigious recognition after such rigorous assessments,” he said.
Following the assessments, BSI recommended that Zain Zambia be certified for ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 27001. The recommendation was then further subject to a technical review by the certification body in the United Kingdom (UK) before Zain could be granted the certificates.
“The impact of this certification underpins Zain's philosophy of embracing a continuous improvement process within its systems whose ultimate aim is to continue on the path to deliver better customer satisfaction and experience across all the touch points,” Holliday added.
BSI regional representative for the Middle East & Africa, Omar Rashid, said Zain Zambia had shown commitment to the certification process in order to offer its customers of excellent and quality services while assuring them of data protection at all times.“ We are delighted to present Zain Zambia the certificates for ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems and ISO 27001 Information Security Management Systems. Every organization would like to improve the way it operates, whether that means increasing market share, driving down costs, managing risk more effectively or improving customer satisfaction. A quality management system gives Zain Zambia the framework they need to monitor and improve performance in any area of their operation to ensure quality is given to clients in line with best international practices,” said Rashid.
Information is critical to the operation and perhaps even the survival of an organization. Being certified to ISO/IEC 27001 will help Zain Zambia to manage and protect their valuable information assets, he added. ISO/IEC 27001 is the only auditable international standard which defines the requirements for an Information Security Management System (ISMS). The standard is designed to ensure the selection of adequate and proportionate security
